Hercules Barsotti was a Brazilian artist known for his contributions to the Neo-Concrete movement, which introduced poeticism and politicism to the abstractions of Concrete art. Born in São Paulo in 1914, Barsotti began painting geometric abstractions in the 1940s after training as a chemist, and later founded a graphic design studio with his partner, Willys de Castro. Barsotti’s artwork was characterized by clean lines, rigorous geometry, and, later in his career, experiments with color. Throughout his career, he participated in numerous exhibitions in Europe, the United States, and Latin America. His work has been displayed in renowned institutions, including in a 2004 retrospective at the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art.
